This is one of many handsome courthouses one can visit in Texas. The building anchors the quaint little town of Coldspring. There is enough here to keep a tourist busy for a relaxing afternoon. Lots of history in the little town of Coldspring starting in about 1847. The stage, lumber, and the Trinity river all had an influence on Coldspring. The present courthouse was built in 1916 to replace a wooden courthouse that was lost in a fire. San Jacinto county dates back to 1870 when Coldspring was known as Coonskin. A jail was built in 1887 and still stands today. According to the National Register Narrative, the courthouse was built in the Classical Revival style. The brick for the walls was fired in kilns close to Coldspring. If you have a free afternoon, this beautiful town is well worth the drive.
