Autumn was amazing! She answered all my questions and was just as nice as could be. I'm from NJ so its always such a surprise to be received with kindness and not hostility from public employees. Thank you Autumn
Yelled at by the da assistant for following the instructions Given to me downstairs. Incredibly rude and awful
Judge Steven Higdon, upon seeing that I was unable to represent myself, rudely criticized me, belittled me, and made me feel as if I had no idea what I was doing. At this point, I considered myself victimized for the second time after having to show cause for failure to appear to a prior case in which I was the victim of a simple assault case. That day, I recieved a court appointed attorney and was told to show up to court on 2/9/17. On the morning of 2/9/17, I left a message with the court appointed attorney stating that I was unable to make it to court due to lack of transportation and lack of funds to find transportation. I informed my court appointed attorney, via voicemail, my situation regarding disability. I have a neuromuscular disease that renders my neck, arms and hands chronically and progressively weak and painful. I was approved for disability in January but did not received my first check until March. Since 2/9/17, I have had my car repossessed due to my disability money not coming soon enough. I have had friends bringing food to my house, paying my utility bills, providing transporation, and I have almost been evicted twice. I am currently in appeals r/t my rent and so I am having to go to the Mecklenburg County Court House to pay my rent there. I would like to hold the judge, Judge Steven Higdon, accountable for discrimination against a disabled individual, such as myself. I am filing a complaint against him and I would like to hold my court appointed attorney, Erin Hucks, responsible as well. I feel that the Legal System has failed me. I would like to emphasis, I informed her of my situation the morning of 2/9/17. I would also like to emphasis, I WAS NOT EVEN A DEFENDENT IN THE PRIOR CASE. I was the VICTIM in the prior case. I could understand if I was the defendant. But, I wasn't. Therefore, I was not purposely trying to avoid court. I feel that this case against me should be DISMISSED. There is no guarantee that I will be able to show for court due to a lack of transportation and funds for transportation, and due to the physical impairment that has rendered me disabled. In addition, I don't even know where I will be living if I am unable to afford my rent if Crisis Ministries is unable to assist me with that. What will the Judge do then? Issue another warrant for my arrest? Will the police go to the Homeless Shelter to look for me there? This is Ridiculous. And it's Discrimination and a Waste of Tax Payer Money to go after someone who is Disabled who has already explained his situation to his court appointed attorney and who is going through a very trying time right now. I would like to SHED LIGHT ON THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS UNFAIR FOR THE LEGAL SYSTEM TO GO AFTER A DISABLED INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS A LACK OF FUNDS AND NO TRANSPORTATION AND ARREST HIM AND MAKE HIM USE MONEY THAT HE COULD HAVE USED FOR RENT TO POST BOND. I HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED TWICE HERE. FIRST, AS THE VICTIM OF A SIMPLE ASSAULT. AND SECONDLY AS A VICTIM OF A JUDGE WHO IS USING HIS DISCRETION BIASLY. I agree with the dismissal of the prior case on account of my inability to show. The judge could have left it at that. I was under the impression that most cases are. Instead, this Judge chose to waste tax payer money going after someone who wasn't even a DEFENDANT in the prior case who wasn't even trying to purposefully evade the law. So, I am reporting this Judge to the NC BAR Association for MISCONDUCT! I have already notified the Head Clerk of Court of the Union County Courthouse as of today and I have informed Erin Huck's Assistant as of today as well.
