NON-VIOLENT DEMOCRACY IN ACTION (Absent Outside Agitators from CNN and Berkeley : ) Citizens of Dayton, TN were recently at odds about erecting a new statue of Clarence Darrow. Dayton is the home of the John Scopes trial of 1925.(The "Scopes Monkey Trial) in which John Scopes was charged with teaching evolution. It was the first trial to be broadcasted on live radio. The ¨Ïf you build it they will oome¨ camp won out in the end. QUESTIONS THAT AROSE DURING THE DEBATE: Is the effort to add Darrow a crass political move to gain publicity and promote local tourism? Will one statue be taller than the other? Will they have matching pedestals? Will one be in the sun and the other in the shadows? Will the Darrow statue be subject to bird droppings? Will the Court House grounds have to be deforested? What about the Sierra Club? Where's the hermetically sealed envelope? Could Pandora's Box be Inside? Where's Carnac the Magnificent?
