I received a jury summons in the mail. My family only has one car at the moment, and my mother drives it to work in Montgomery every day. We live outside Selma in an area where there's no food delivery or taxi or anything like that. I happen to not have any local friends and only two family members- who can't help because again, only one car and it's in Montgomery every day. I called the courthouse to ask what to do about this, since I'm not interested in being fined or arrested and just wanted to know if literally being unable to attend will get me in trouble. The lady on the phone was very rude and dismissive and after a series of flippant non-answers directed me to send a letter saying I wouldn't be able to come, but also told me it probably wouldn't help. I sent the letter and have heard nothing back whatsoever. My mother called today and was told that I have been excused but that I won't be given/mailed anything to say so in writing. So now I still don't know if I'm going to be fined or arrested, but I do know that I hope I can move to a different city or state before getting another jury summons, because the communication with this courthouse has been one-sided and miserable.
Although the recording says you strive for excellence in customer service I have yet to see this in receiving my compensation for jury duty. Yes the amount is basically pennies but you have lied on two occasions when you said "the check will go out today". Stop the shenanigans and do what you say you will do. Suppose I don't show up for jury duty then there's a problem then right?? Boy I tell you.. This city.....
